Today I selected \u201cMarket\u201d on my Android phone, as I am expecting an update to IP Camviewer an \u201capp\u201d we use to remotely check cameras like the one shown on our Website, instead of being taken to the Android Market(place) I am confronted by a screen inviting me to accept or decline \u201cGoogle Play\u201d, no other options and no explanation what on earth \u201cGoogle Play\u201d is or why I might want it.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am already involved in issues over Android Market place which means that it is very difficult to administer my \u201dapps\u201d not only does the market keep ramming updates for apps I have removed (or want to ), but separately 3 Google books have entered my account and Google are telling me I cannot remove them, apparently they came free with Google books (which I don’t have either!)<\/p>\n

Now they have changed to Google Play<\/span><\/p>\n

I am insulted, I don\u2019t use my phone for \u201cplaying\u201d (yes I do have some music on it and a link to my Music library!) other that that I have apps relating to business, plus unfortunately a whole load of what I consider useless Junk put on by HTC and Three, (which cannot be uninstalled unless you \u201croot\u201d the phone \u2013 Android equivalent of Apple\u2019s Jailbreaking ). This lot is already making the phone continually grumble about insufficient memory, so I am debating its real value.<\/p>\n

Google Play means I can have Movies, Music, Games, Books (oh yes and my applications) offered to me and all stored (recorded) in my account. I\u2019m using a PHONE with a screen smaller than 4\u201d diagonal for goodness sake, I\u2019m not saying there aren’t some looneytunes out there who want to watch Avatar in 3D on such a screen rather that working, but don’t count me with them, I\u2019d rather get some sleep.<\/p>\n

Terry has recently defected to what I always considered \u201cThe Dark Side\u201d by buying an Ipad, but looking at the Apple Apps store, (You can simply select \u201chide\u201d for apps you no longer want \u2013 not ideal BUT way superior to Google) makes me think that Google may be becoming part of a new \u201cAxis of Evil Empire\u201d and we need a new rebellion to find a \u201cfourth way\u201d (if that\u2019s not mixing too many metaphors!)<\/p>\n

Sufficient to say I selected \u201cDecline\u201d on my phone, am now contacting my \u201capp\u201d providers to arrange service outside of \u201cPlay\u201d<\/p>\n

I have held off purchase of Tablets, waiting for proper Android based ones that come anywhere near the iPad, and our phones come up for renewal shortly. At present this would make me decide to go to Apple (We’ve just loaded a beta of Windows 8 for PC which has made me even more certain I don\u2019t want a Windows phone \u2013 that\u2019s another story!)<\/p>\n
