Windows 10 Are You Ready To Upgrade? Question Should be “Is Window 10 ready to use?”

Microsoft is Going to release windows Ten as an online upgrade to millions of PC users starting in the next 24 hours. We have been watching and participating in the development of this new Operating System and our opinion is that you may well regret jumping in at this point!

This is not because we don't like it (although there are mixed feelings here about that ), but because we have not found it to be stable and whilst we have worked with the beta versions of windows 10 we have not been able to use these PC's to do any work (other than installing / updating / app installing / formatting / re-installing / updating / installing – you get it?) – Now if end users wanting to DO STUFF on their PC's upgrade and get this hassle then what?

Now on my laptop we have had persistent and increasingly regular Blue Screens Of Death (BSOD) The error message is "These we haven't been able to find a reason for and the issue has been passed to Microsoft support – more than once!

A second Laptop doesn't have this problem – although it did have a BSOD on me the other day but this has really not had the use it needs.

Third Laptop – This machine will not download and update – this may be because it was allowed to fall well behind the upgrade schedule.

Desktop PC – this is the only one that seems problem free, however it is the least used, being on demonstration in our store and is a dual win 7 /Win 10 booting system not really a fair test.

Our Conclusion:

What's the rush? you've got a year (for free upgrade) – 25% of the machines we've tested on Preview (That's one actually !) won't work at all BSOD's evey hour or so – Microsoft not being desperately helpful on fixing this – but looking on their forums I can see they might be stretched

A second laptop stopped upgrading and we haven't (yet) been able to fix this

The third machine is much better but still more BSOD's – (My desktop Win 7 never has this problem – nor do my Android devices) – our fourth system (a desktop) is OK – BUT really is not used enough to be valid..

Looking on the Insider Preview stuff a large number of people are of the opinion that this OS is NOT READY YET – it looks as though MS is committed though.

If our rates are indicative MS is going to have a quarter of a BILLION unhappy customers..

Why risk it yet? let dedicated testers (and mugs) go for it and see – just cos' it's free doesn't mean it's worth anything!
